Lena Hedayat, PT, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Lena was born and raised in Los Angeles. From dance to soccer, swimming and rowing, Lena took part in many different sports while growing up, as well as playing the piano and singing in her school choir. She later taught swimming lessons and became a certified yoga instructor, which in part inspired her to pursue physical therapy.
Taking an unusual path, Lena majored in English at UCLA, and took time after graduating to volunteer in physical therapy clinics and take the requirements for PT school. She also worked part-time in a middle school special education department, assisting students as an aide.
In 2018, Lena moved to Boston to attend the MGH Institute of Health Professions where she studied physical therapy and graduated with her doctorate in 2021. During her time there, her clinical focus was in the outpatient orthopedic setting; she had the opportunity to present and educate physical therapists on traditional yoga sequences and how this can affect patients who either want to start or return to yoga.
Throughout her journey to becoming a physical therapist, Lena realized each of her life experiences contributed to making her ready for this career. She is so excited to live, work, and help everyone live their healthiest lives here on the Big Island!
In her free time, Lena enjoys being outdoors running, hiking, rock climbing, surfing, and doing yoga. She also really enjoys cooking, with an interest in understanding how diet influences the human body’s physical condition and healing process.
